More downloads, higher ratings: useful SDKs from RuStore
Developing a good app is only half the battle. For it to grow and generate profit, attracting and retaining users is also crucial. Mikhail Khudobin, Head of RuStore's Service Distribution Team, discussed the free SDKs—Review and Update—that can help improve your app's store ranking, increase downloads, and simplify the update process.

SDK Review: More Reviews – Higher Rating
Reviews and ratings are key to any app's success. They directly influence a user's decision to download your product, help improve the app, and boost its position in search results.
But despite the importance of reviews and ratings, users rarely leave them on their own — they don't want to take the time to navigate to the store, put it off for later, or simply forget. As a result, developers lose valuable feedback that could help in the product's development.
The SDK Review tool solves this problem by allowing users to leave ratings and comments directly within the app. This significantly increases the number of reviews and improves the app's overall rating.
How SDK Review impacts an app:
- In-app review collection increases the number of reviews manifold.
- The average number of positive ratings increases by 14% just one year after integrating SDK Review and continues to grow steadily (data from Asodesk).
- Improving a rating from 3 to 4 stars increases download conversion by 89%, and from 3 to 5 stars by 97%.
The higher the rating and the greater the number of reviews, the more new users trust the app, install it, and use it over the long term.
Real Success Stories
Many apps are already using SDK Review and achieving excellent results.
Wildberries app: 2 times more reviews via the SDK.
Average rating via SDK – 4.93.
Average organic rating – 4.17.
"СберБанк Онлайн" app: 5 times more reviews via the SDK.
Average rating via SDK – 4.76.
Average organic rating – 4.19.
Game "Эра Богинь: Падшие Ангелы": 18 times more reviews via the SDK.
Average rating via SDK – 4.6.
Average organic rating – 3.4.
Game Infinite Magicraid: Myth: 16 times more reviews via the SDK.
Average rating via SDK – 4.8.
Average organic rating – 3.7.
Average indicators after integrating SDK Review:
- The number of reviews increases by at least 2 times.
- The average app rating rises from 3.84 to 4.7.
SDK Review works automatically, does not require complex setup, and provides an immediate visible effect. The more users leave reviews, the higher the likelihood that the app will rise to the top, get featured, and attract a new audience.

SDK Update: Convenient In-App Updates
Updates are a vital part of any app's lifecycle. Through them, developers fix bugs, enhance security, and add new features. Many developers are increasingly choosing automated delivery methods using SDK tools. This approach has become a global standard as it simplifies updates and makes them seamless for users.
This is also implemented in the RuStore ecosystem: SDK Update allows updating an app directly from within it, without needing to go to the store. This significantly simplifies and automates the process for both users and developers.
Why integrate SDK Update
- Keeping users up-to-date. SDK Updates help keep users on the latest app version, reducing the share of outdated versions and ensuring a consistent user experience.
- Audience retention. Fewer abandoned sessions means less audience loss. SDK Update allows users to receive updates without having to leave the app or log into the store.
- Security. Updates often include critical vulnerability fixes. Integrating SDK Update ensures that users are always using the latest and most secure version of the app.
- Rapid implementation of new features. For actively developing apps, the speed of updates is key. The faster users upgrade to the new version, the less fragmentation and higher user satisfaction.
- Reduced developer workload. Automating the checking and installation of updates via SDK Update simplifies the team's work, allowing them to focus on app development.
Update Types
SDK Update offers three app update scenarios: flexible, silent, and forced.
Flexible Update
This is the most common and convenient option for users.
- A RuStore UI dialog box appears on the screen suggesting an update.
- After pressing the "Update" button, the system will request installation confirmation.
- Upon completion of the installation, the app will close automatically.
Silent Update
The update occurs without the RuStore UI (without pop-up windows suggesting an update). The user only needs to confirm the installation.
- The user will see a dialog box requesting installation confirmation, while the update downloads in the background.
- After the installation finishes, the app will close.
Forced Update
In mobile development, there is the concept of a "tail of old versions." For example, a year after the release of the first version of your app, you already have updates with important fixes and new features. However, in server logs and crash analytics, you might notice that some users continue to use the outdated version.
At first glance, this might not seem like a problem. However, there are two key reasons for forced updates:
- Bug fixing. Old versions may still contain critical errors that were fixed long ago in current builds. If these hinder app functionality or negatively impact user experience, an update becomes necessary.
- Access to new features. Fresh versions contain improvements, new capabilities, and important business analytics data. However, until users update, these innovations remain unused, potentially leading to lost time and revenue.
Forced update resolves these issues, ensuring users have a current and stable experience with the app.
Forced updates follow this algorithm:
- Checking update availability. SDK Update determines if a forced update is required.
- Initiating the update process. If the app version is outdated, the update is triggered automatically.
- Restricting access. Until the new version is installed, using the app is impossible.
- Completing the update. The app becomes available only after the update is fully installed.
Growth Cases
Companies already using SDK Update see significant acceleration in updates and improved user experience.
The "МТС Деньги" app accelerated the update process for 38% of its users thanks to SDK Update. In other words, now nearly half of those who update the app do so seamlessly and right while using it.
The OZON app was able to accelerate update delivery for 24% of its users thanks to SDK Update. For marketplaces and high-load services, this is critical, as the faster bug fixes and new features are distributed, the higher customer satisfaction.
Rapid app updates ensure stability, security, and a better user experience. The faster users transition to new versions, the less frequently they encounter bugs, the sooner they get new features, and the more loyal they remain. SDK Update makes this process automatic, convenient, and seamless, reducing churn and increasing trust in the product.
