Attracting a paying audience is often associated with advertising budgets: the more you invest, the higher the volume and quality of traffic. But this is not the only growth scenario.
RuStore has a tool that works differently and requires no investment — featuring. Getting into thematic collections provides access to an in-store audience that is already ready to install and make purchases. According to our internal analytics, such users on average pay 1.5 times more than those coming from advertising channels.
My name is Varvara Yumina, and I am the chief editor of RuStore. Together with the team, we review hundreds of featuring requests daily and see that a carefully prepared offer plays a key role in the decision to be included in collections. Below, I'll tell you which offers work best, how to use coupons in RuStore, and what to consider when submitting a request for in-game events.
What the editorial team looks for before adding a game to a collection
Featuring is the free placement of a game in the store's thematic collections: for example, "Game of the Day", "Top 10 Relaxing Games", etc. Such collections are curated manually — the editorial team selects high-quality, relevant, and interesting projects for users. Getting into them provides significant organic traffic without advertising costs.
You won't get into a collection by default, as the editorial team evaluates each project comprehensively. First, we assess:
- The app's store listing. Screenshots, description, icon — all of this influences the first impression. If the gameplay is unclear from the screenshots and the icon gets lost among others, the chances for featuring decrease.
- Rating and reviews. Both algorithms and the editorial team pay attention to them. In 2026, threaded comments will appear in RuStore — this will further impact search results and automatic collections.
- RuStore SDK integration. Connecting the store's tools shows the developer's readiness to work systematically with the platform and increases trust in the project.
- Social media and influencers. You don't have to run expensive campaigns: even a small reach in thematic communities or integrations with bloggers help generate initial demand. When interest already exists, it's visible and is taken into account during the selection process.
The offer as the main key to the editorial team's heart
An offer is a special proposition for users: a discount, bonus, gift, promo code. Something that motivates them to install the game or make a purchase.
In the context of featuring, the offer is one of the key factors for promoting a title on the storefront. For the editorial team, it's a signal: does the developer understand their audience, can the product maintain value and interest for the user?
A well-structured offer helps solve several tasks at once:
- Attracting new users. Welcome bonuses, a discount on the first purchase, or a free gift lower the entry barrier and simplify the first interaction with the product.
- Increasing ARPPU and payment frequency. Discounts that maintain the ticket size, exclusive skins, increased cashback — tools for working with the already paying audience.
- Retaining the active audience. The offer might not be about the first purchase, but about keeping the user in the game longer and making them feel additional value.
- Promoting new features or content. A discount or bonus tied to a major update helps draw attention to new mechanics and features.
Important: the offer isn't just about discounts and bonuses, especially for a paying audience. The value often lies in the proposition itself — a unique item, an opportunity to stand out, or to get rare content. The emotional component works just as strongly, and sometimes even more so, than direct benefit.
Which offers work
Offers can be conditionally divided into two groups depending on the goal: attracting new users and increasing revenue from the existing audience.
For attracting new users
Goal: Lower the entry barrier. Simple and understandable mechanics work best here:
- Welcome bonus. A free starting gift that helps engage the user.
- 2x on the first purchase. Encourages an immediate payment rather than just installing the game.
- Discount for everyone. A universal tool without segmentation — suitable for broad reach.
Benchmark for the transaction value (not a strict rule): free or up to 500 rubles. It's important to consider your own ARPPU and competitors' offers in the genre.
For increasing ARPPU and payment frequency
Goal: Increase the transaction value and encourage repeat purchases.
Different mechanics work at this stage: for the paying audience, it's not the minimum price that matters, but the value of the offer.
- Large discount while maintaining the ticket size. A substantial discount on an expensive item: the user feels the benefit, while the average transaction value remains high.
- Exclusive skin for payment. Unique items or skins available only through the offer.
- Increased cashback. A higher return rate encourages spending more during the promotion.
- Discount or 2x on purchase. A simple mechanic that works on payment frequency.
- Variety. Several bundles with different prices (e.g., 400; 1,500; 6,000 ₽) give the user a choice and increase conversion.
All these mechanics work when there is demand and a solvent audience. According to our data, users in featuring show a high level of payments: the average transaction value can reach 2,500 rubles. Therefore, you shouldn't undervalue the offer's price; it's much more important that its value meets the player's expectations.
Requirements for offers
A discount by itself does not guarantee getting into featuring. The editorial team evaluates the offer comprehensively — not only the existence of the proposition matters, but also how it is implemented.
Key requirements
Exclusivity. The offer must be unique to RuStore. If a similar offer is available in other stores, its value for the audience decreases.
Accessibility. The path to the offer must be as short as possible, otherwise the effectiveness of the proposition drops.
Accessibility. The path to the offer must be as short and clear as possible. The fewer steps required from the user, the higher the probability they will use the offer. This can be achieved, for example, through a direct link to the offer screen (deeplink) or other solutions that simplify the user journey and reduce unnecessary actions.
Call to action. The offer should encourage a purchase here and now. Time limits, a sense of benefit, and urgency increase conversion.
Value and presentation. Even a strong offer can go unnoticed due to weak visuals or an unclear message. The user reacts to the creative first, and only then to the text. If the composition doesn't read well or the value isn't clear at first glance, the offer will simply be scrolled past.
Coupons in RuStore: an offer without development
Launching an offer — be it a discount, gift, or promo code — usually requires resources: developer time, logic modifications, and release preparation. Therefore, even large teams can't always quickly launch a promotion for an event or update. To solve this problem, RuStore has a simpler tool — coupons. They work when the Pay SDK is connected and are configured via the RuStore Console.
What can be configured:
- discount amount;
- number of activations (e.g., limit the batch);
- validity period: fixed (from the 5th to the 20th) or with delayed use (the coupon is activated on specific dates, but can be used for another two weeks);
- minimum purchase amount to apply the coupon (e.g., 100 ₽ discount on a purchase of 300 ₽ or more).
After configuration, the system will generate a link through which the user can activate the coupon.
Coupons are easily integrated into various promotion channels:
- push and email newsletters;
- social media posts;
- in-game highlights;
- personal links for influencers;
- the RuStore storefront via in-game events.
The mechanics are simple: the user follows the link, lands on the coupon page, sees the terms, and can immediately install or open the game. The coupon itself is applied at the in-app purchase stage.
How to get on the storefront
To get your offer seen by users, it's important to feature it on the RuStore storefront. This can be done through in-game events.
The request is submitted via the Console and is available to developers who have enabled monetization. In the form, you need to specify the promotion description, creative, promo code (if any), and the duration.
Recently, we simplified the process: coupons are now available directly in the event submission form — you can create the offer and send it for moderation right away.
How to submit a featuring request
For the editorial team to notice your request, its presentation matters: the creative, title, and description. Since these determine whether the user will interact with the offer.
Creative
The user reacts to the visual first, and only then reads the text. If the creative doesn't read well, the offer will simply be scrolled past.
Important to remember:
- main object in the center so the composition doesn't "fall apart" when resized;
- contrasting color scheme;
- compliance with technical requirements and storefront requirements.
Clear CTA in the title
The title should immediately answer two questions: who the offer is for and what the user will get.
Readable promo code and activation rules
The promo code should be simple and readable — it's better to use short, understandable words. Even if the user can copy it with one button, it's important that the code is easy to perceive and remember in case something goes wrong.
The promotion terms must be transparent and noticeable. If there are restrictions (by time, player status, or in-game actions), they need to be stated explicitly, not hidden at the end.
Concise description
It's better to break the promotion description into logical paragraphs. Long, unstructured descriptions are harder to read and lower conversion.
At the beginning of the text, you should immediately state: who the promotion is for, its duration, and how to activate the promo code.
Spelling and punctuation
Write correctly: spelling and punctuation errors reduce trust in the product. The editorial team pays attention to this just as much as users do.
Next, let's look at how this all works in practice.
Examples
1. Unsuccessful example
Creative. No central element, the composition falls apart. Colors don't grab attention, the visual looks "flat". When resized on different devices, the creative loses integrity, although the safe zones are formally respected.
Title. "30% discount on the gift set" — the wording is unclear. It's not clear if this is a paid set with a discount or a gift via promo code. It doesn't state who the promotion is for (e.g., only for new players).
Offer. First purchase transaction value — 69 ₽. However, the game has a high ARPPU, and users are willing to pay more. As a result, the offer didn't work: users ignored the cheap proposition and bought more expensive items. The promotion's potential was missed.
2. Good example with nuances
Creative. The visual is neat and centered, the composition reads well. Looks correct when resized on different devices.
Title. The value is clearly stated: gifts worth 8,000 ₽, exclusivity is indicated. But it doesn't specify that the promotion is intended for new users.
Promo code and terms. Activation instructions are present — that's a plus. The promo code isn't the simplest, but acceptable. The main problem is that the terms are hidden at the end: time and availability restrictions can easily be missed, especially on small screens.
3. Strong example
Creative. Cohesive composition, has a central element, contrasting color scheme. Safe zones are respected — the creative displays correctly on all devices.
Title. Strong CTA: high discount (up to 90%) and emphasis on exclusivity. The user immediately understands the value and urgency of the offer.
Offer. Transaction value — 623 ₽. Significant discount, but a reasonable price level considering ARPPU is maintained. The offer is perceived as beneficial but does not devalue the product.
Result. Users not only made purchases through the promotion but also returned later. Such events show the best performance and are more likely to end up in the top of featuring.
Additional tools: pre-orders and tags
Besides offers and in-game events, RuStore has two more free tools that help attract the attention of users and the editorial team.
Pre-orders
If the game hasn't been released yet, you can set up a pre-order store listing. Users will see the project before release and can install it automatically on the launch day.
A pre-order can be enhanced with an offer — for example, by adding a coupon. The user then goes through pre-registration and receives a bonus or discount after installation. This increases motivation and helps build an audience even before release.
Promote the pre-order through social networks and gaming communities.
Editorial tags
RuStore has special tags — for example, "Editor's Choice" or "Beautiful Graphics". They highlight the game in search and collections and increase the conversion to install.
Tags are assigned manually by the editorial team — there is no separate application. Your chances of getting them are higher if the basic conditions are met: a quality store listing, high rating, responding to reviews, and well-thought-out offers.
We talked more about editorial tags in a separate article.
Briefly about the main points
Featuring in RuStore is not about budget, but about the quality of execution. The editorial team selects projects that demonstrate an understanding of their audience and the ability to convey value through the offer and its presentation.
Promotion inside the store is systematic work: from the state of the product to how the offer is presented and how the user interacts with it. The more accurately you meet the audience's expectations, the higher the chance of getting not just traffic, but paying users.
Even without advertising investment, you can build an effective strategy: test offers, work with store formats, and gradually strengthen the results.
The main thing is not to look for a "magic button", but to assemble all the elements into a coherent and understandable mechanic for the user.
